Two teams which have spent a fair deal of money in the Summer and who are sure to push for a top 4 finish.

Sunday 19 August, 2007:

Manchester City vs Manchester United
The Manchester Derby is never short of action. This will be Sven Goran Erikkson's first major challenge.
Erikkson vs Fergusson is going to be a nice battle for sure.

Liverpool vs Chelsea
Liverpool and Chelsea face-off pretty early in the season. In a rivalry which has continued over the last couple of years with Liverpool being responsible for 2 of Chelsea's Champions League exits in the last 3 years.

Last year in the Premiership it was the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool that realistically ended Chelsea's title challenge. With both teams adding several new players - this game is definitely a must watch.

Mark it in your calendars.

Sunday 26 August, 2007:

Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur
A clash between these two is always a feisty affair. Tottenham have spent lots of money pre-season and now seem to have a pretty strong team on paper. This ones going to be a nice one to see how some of the new stars perform.

EPL Transfer News – Birmingham City pull out of Ghaly deal, sign Ridgewell and Queuedrue

Birmingham City have pulled out of the almost-confirmed £3million transfer of Tottenham midfielder Hossam Ghaly.

Why? Well they describe it as "footballing reasons".

This follows the collapse of the deal to sign another Spurs player Mido.

Meanwhile Steve Bruce signed Liam Ridgewell from bitter rivals Aston Villa.

Ridgewell ended an eight-year spell with Villa after joining Blues for £2million on a three-year contract deal with a further two-year option available.

Ridgewell followed hot on the heels of Fulham left-back Franck Queudrue in moving to St Andrews yesterday and became Bruce's 10th summer signing.

Birmingham completed Queuedrue’s signing from Fulham in a deal which could be worth £2.5million. The 28-year-old has signed a three-year contract and committed himself to Blues until the summer of 2010.

Carlos Tevez joins Manchester United

The Carlos Tevez saga has finally come to an end and Tevez has begun training with his new Manchester United team-mates. He is all set to make his debut next week.

The Premier League ratified a deal which released Tevez from his West Ham contract.

"We are delighted," Ferguson told MUTV.

Tevez's debut will mark the start of a two-year loan period, which gives United the option to complete a permanent transfer at the end. The two-year loan deal is likely to cost United around £5million a year and a statement from Tevez's representative said: "Carlos is looking forward to being a Manchester United player and his ambition is close to being achieved.

The Hammers meanwhile said in a statement: "The settlement ends the current litigation taking place between the respective parties and provides for a £2million fee to be paid to West Ham.”
West Ham chairman Eggert Magnusson was relieved the affair has finally been concluded.

Alan Smith completes Newcastle move

Well as predicted by me, Smith completed his move to Newcastle United and is set to replace the midfield role played by Kieron Dyer (Who is in talks with West Ham).

Alan Smith said the time was right to embrace a new era at St James' Park after signing a five-year deal with Newcastle on Friday for an undisclosed fee - believed to be in the region of £6million.

Bolton sign Daniel Braaten

Bolton manager Sammy Lee has completed the signing of Norwegian international winger Daniel Braaten from Rosenborg for an undisclosed fee.

Lee has made a number of new signings since replacing Sam Allardyce towards the end of last season.

Former Aston Villa duo Jloyd Samuel and Gavin McCann have joined at the Reebok stadium. So to have Christian Wilhelmsson and Heidar Helguson.

Ironically - Bolton open their season with a home game against Allardyce's Newcastle.

Rhain Davis – The future of Manchester United? A 9 year old Football Whiz

Manchester United signed a 9 year old - Rhain Davis - from Australia after the Man U scouts were left mesmerized by seeing some DVD footage of the kid.

Three weeks back news about Rhain’s skills were covered in a front page story in Brisbane’s Courier Mail. Then The Sun promoted him to their front page, commanding at least 10 million readers.

Why? How? Still confused and want to know more?

Though Rhain will definitely not make it to the United team this season, with the skills he possesses – the EPL stage is not far away.

Eriksson continues spending. Manchester City’s transfer hat-trick.

Manchester City signed three players in day! A remarkable spending spree saw Croatian Vedran Corluka, Spaniard Javier Garrido and Brazilian Elano Blumer join the club on Thursday.

New manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has now made seven new signings since he took over with Rolando Bianchi, Martin Petrov, Gelson Fernandes and Geovanni also moving to the club.

‘The arrival of millionaire former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has allowed City room to spend freely ahead of the new season,’ reports Sporting Life.

Brazilian midfielder Elano Blumer joined from Shakhtar Donetsk for £8million. Elano, 26, has agreed on a 4 year deal.

Vedran Corluka, a defender from Dinamo Zagreb, arrived for an undisclosed fee, although reports from Croatia suggest City have paid about £7million for the 21-year-old.

Garrido, 22, joins from Real Sociedad for £1.5million. Sociedad got relegated last season from Spain’s top division.

I hope all this massive spending ensure at least a top half premiership finish for Manchester City.

Manchester City have completed the signing of Valeri Bojinov from Fiorentina.

The Bulgarian international becomes Sven-Goran Eriksson's eighth summer signing, for an undisclosed fee (believed to be around £6million).

Latest in the Carlos Tevez – Manchester United transfer saga

Well we had a post some time back about Manchester United still being upbeat about signing Carlos Tevez…

But the whole saga seems to be never-ending.

Carlos Tevez fears his season could be severely handicapped due to lack of pre-season preparation.

The dispute between West Ham and Tevez's agent Kia Joorabchian has held up his move to Manchester United and even the last day of the issue reaching the courts seems to be around the corner. An out of court settlement would have been fine for everyone, except of course Kia Joorabchian.

Tevez had been in peak form off late and helped Argentina reach the final of this summer's Copa America. But complete lack of any pre-season work and friendlies surely is not the best preparation for him.

"We need a solution quickly so that I can get on with my career," Tevez told the Daily Mail.
"To play for a super club like Manchester United without any pre-season work behind me is going to be a real handicap."

Meanwhile his countryman Juan Sebastian Veron has warned Carlos Tevez that a move to Manchester United could ruin his career.

Veron had made a £28 million move to Old Trafford in 2001, but failed to hit top form in two injury-hit seasons and then moved on to Chelsea. Even at Chelsea, Veron flattered to deceive and ultimately moved on to Inter Milan.

Now the Argentinian playmaker has told Tevez that joining the Premier League champions could be a big mistake.

Veron told the Daily Star: "Carlos will find that United is not like West Ham in any aspect. The change will be enormous and if things do not go well he could suffer a mortal fall in fortune."

"To triumph at United is not east even if you are a superstar. Some players leave the club because of the enormous pressure. The people at Old Trafford are very critical."

Review: Wednesday’s Pre-Season Friendlies. Man Utd lose to Inter Milan…

Manchester United 2 - Inter Milan 3
Manchester United failed to impress as Italian champions Inter Milan won 3-2 at Old Trafford in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday.
The Red Devils took the lead on 17 minutes through a thumping Wayne Rooney goal.
Sloppy defending allowed Inter back into the game as new signing David Suazo scored from close range and a sweeping move a little later saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic put the Serie A side in front on 27 minutes. Suazo scored his second of the night on 34 minutes.

Hull 1 - Newcastle 0
A 40th minute goal from Dean Marney was enough to give Hull a deserved 1-0 success at home to Newcastle.

Leyton Orient 2 - Tottenham 4
Spurs were in free-scoring mood yet again after recording a 4-2 win at Leyton Orient. Robbie Keane scored 2 while Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent scored one each.

Shrewsbury 0 - Manchester City 2
Man City left it late to record a 2-0 win over Shrewsbury Town at the New Meadow. Bernardo Corradi headed the opening goal on 82 minutes before Paul Dickov scored a crisp second late on.

Galway 0 - Sunderland 4
Michael Chopra scored after just six minutes en route to Sunderland's comprehensive 4-0 win over Galway United.

Stoke 0 - Aston Villa 2
Patrik Berger and Gabriel Agbonlahor scored as Aston Villa won 2-0 at The Britannia Stadium

Bolton 3 - Espanyol 0
Ricardo Vaz Te pounced for two first-half goals as Bolton eased to a 3-0 home triumph over Espanyol.

Huddersfield 2 – Blackburn 1
Luke Beckett's brace condemned Blackburn to a 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield. Jason Roberts netted a late consolation goal for Rovers.

Valencia and Arsenal interested in Bolton’s Anelka..
Rumours have it that Valencia are lining up a ₤13m bid for the French striker. Though 13m is quite a high price tag for Anelka, Bolton would definitely sell him at that price.

Spurs seal Boateng deal
Kevin-Prince Boateng admitted it is a "dream" to have joined Tottenham after completing his move from Hertha Berlin.
A length of contract or fee for the 20-year-old midfielder has yet to be confirmed, but Spurs are reported to have agreed a deal in the region of £5.4million to beat Sevilla to the Germany Under-21 international.

Deco headed to Chelsea? Barcelona don’t think so
Deco might fancy a move to Chelsea, but Barcelona have ruled out selling the Portuguese midfielder.

The Nou Camp playmaker hit the headlines on Tuesday when revealing that he fancied the idea of teaming up with former boss Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

But president Juan Laporta revealed that there is no way Deco will be leaving Catalonia this summer.

Tottenham to offer 8m for Lyon’s Kallstrom
Not sure if Martin Jol will be still looking at Kallstrom after the purchase of Boateng but he’ll be a good buy – especially for the central midfield, where the Spurs solely lack some depth.

SoccerLens has an interesting bit of rumour about Diarra wanting to swap Chelsea for Arsenal?
"Why would Diarra leave one jam-packed midfield (Ballack, Lampard, Essien, Mikel, Makelele, Sidwell) for another (Silva, Fabregas, Denilson, Diaby, Flamini)? There is technically more space at Arsenal, but with Ballack, Makelele and Lampard ageing Diarra is realistically only competing with Mikel at Chelsea (Essien is untouchable). At Arsenal, he has Denilson and Diaby to contend with, both of whom have done quite well."

• Manchester United have sold young striker Giuseppe Rossi to Spanish side Villarreal.
  

• Aston Villa have signed promising American teenager Eric Lichaj.
  

• Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing insists he was never interested in a move to Tottenham. Downing is a really promising player on the left flank and he’s ought to leave for a bigger club soon – especially if he wants to become an England team regular.
  

• Sam Allardyce has insisted Kieron Dyer will not leave Newcastle on the cheap.
  

• Chelsea are trying to sort out Alex’s work permit issues.
