Manchester United win FA Community Shield via Penalty Shoot-out

Van der Saar saved 3 penalties in the shoot-out as Manchester United won this years FA Community Shield.

The game saw 2 classy goals in the first half from Man Utd captain Ryan Giggs and Chelsea new signing Florent Malouda. The game proceeded to penalties straight after the 90 minutes deadlock.

Claudio Pizarro, Frank Lampard and Shawn Wright Phillips all missed for Chelsea as Van Der Saar made 3 acrobatic saves. Cech couldn't save any as Rio Ferdinand, Carrick and Rooney slotted home their respective penalties.

Well more often than not the team which wins the FA Community Shield - doesn't go on to win the League! So there's something that the Chelsea fans can console themselves with.
